Goda, The-Good.
GOD1
[to Whom the first day of June, day 152, is dedicated]
Geography/Culture: Celtic: British.
Linguistic Note: Old Slavic, Godu, 'fit, season'. Related English words: gather (?), good.
Description: Shapeshifting excellent Goddess of the calendar cycle, the chase, love, fertility, prophesy and death.
Note: since I have as yet found no image of Goda, the image used is of Epona since there seems to be a connection between Epona and Godiva, and through Godiva, possibly a connection between Epona and Goda. The image is from page 81 Celtic Mythology, Mac Cana.
To Whom Sacred: onion (perhaps mistaken interpretation of round object in icon); apple (of immortality); hare; greyhound; goat (sacrifice--and which She rides); raven; net; maze-dance; the colour black.
Iconography: She holds a round object (sometimes called an onion, probably fruit, likely an apple) in one hand, or to Her lips; Her hair is long and loose; She is wrapped in a net and rides sidesaddle on a goat which is preceded by a hare, or with a hound at Her side; a raven flies overhead.
Festival: April 31 -- May-eve.
